Road Trip! Days 7-10

On Tuesday morning, we all climbed into our car to drive to Jode’s brother’s home. It was only a two hour drive, and after nearly 30 hours in the car otherwise, it looked pretty short.
The Sierra Mountains were beautiful, and inasmuch as I like the Nebraska prairies, I had forgotten how much Jode and I always enjoyed the Sierras. The morning was misty, and cool, with the mountain peaks showing through the mist. Really quite breathtaking.
We arrived at Chris’ house, for many hugs from cousins, aunts, uncles, and grandma. We had not met one “new” niece, and we had fun getting to know her. She really enjoyed all the attention of her cousins. We were greatly surprised to see Jode’s sister Cathy and her husband Ron, as we thought they were not coming. It was wonderful to see them both, so unexpectedly.
We opened gifts, ate, played card games, played Settlers of Catan (Jode brought his 3-D version, which was popular), and ate some more. I personally enjoyed playing the card game hand-and-foot with my in-laws. Cori and Nathan liked seeing their older cousins, and we also had fun showing everyone our Christmas DVD (a new home made tradition in our home).
Thursday we went to Yosemite National Park, and the weather was perfect. The roads were clear, and it was not bitingly cold, but pleasant. We were glad to get out of the cold, but it was not unbearable. Here is Will with his Starbucks, and then after he and Grandma sleeping in the car.

Friday we returned to my parent’s home just until Saturday. We visited with our friends Russ and Yvonne also, and were able to see all our children together. We were married the same year as they were, and had children around the same time, so it was fun to catch up and see how much the children had grown.
