A summery post

By Jenny | July 14, 2006

If you are reading that the Great Plains are experiencing a lot of heat right now, I am here to tell you that that is entirely true. It has been in the upper 90’s to low 100’s, and a bit humid. Not humid like New Jersey, but humid nonetheless. It is a different humidity somehow. I do like the heat as it reminds me of the San Joaquin Valley.

The three oldest are busy with their de-tasseling, and it is going well. I think the only time of day they really mind it is when we are all home in the afternoon, and they have to do their daily chores. I hear stories of them about the other kids in the fields, and how they use bad language, or tease them. I think they are enjoying the work overall.

Jode is enjoying his work, and I am down to working two days a week. Jode’s job is to keep the computer network running, and he says it is not too difficult. The regular frustrations of a network, but still fine. I am getting to know the evening crew at my store, and they are a good group to work with. I suspect management is not too happy with me over my needing to change from morning to evening hours, but there is nothing to be done about that. Family comes first, so that is that.

Ben is doing fantastic at his swim lessons, and I am looking forward to getting to the pool a bit more often. The days seems to fly by, between getting the kids to the bus stop for work, getting Ben to the pool, picking him up, waiting for the call that the older kids are done in the field….you get the idea. We will start school in August, which will be here in no time.

There has been time for a little break: the afternoons are quieter, and that is nice. We will not be traveling before school starts, but will have grandparents here to visit.

And, after that….school…
