Fourth of July

By Jenny | July 5, 2006

I confess the rest of the day was fun.

We took the little guys down to the carnival. It was a small carnival, as you can see from the slideshow link, but they rode a couple of rides each. We walked over to the car show, and saw the pole vaulting contest on the way there. At the old car show we saw some really great cars. I got a few ideas for what I want the Fury’s color scheme to be when we fix it up (Jode said I get to pick the colors!).

Afterwards, we came home for lunch and then set out for the Tae Kwon Do demonstration. I have posted the coolest 4th photo on my own blog site, but I got some other good photos of the children there. Anna, Cori, and Cassie participated in the setting up and helping out. Nathan did the demo itself, including an impressive part he played as the bad guy attacking someone who knew TKD (a defensive demonstration). I suspect Nathan enjoys acting.

When TKD was over, the oldest four went out to sell water. They didn’t make as much money as they had hoped, but at least we have enough bottled water for the summer now (!).

In the late afternoon we went to the parade. It was funny, some of it, with a whole lot of local participation. I have never seen so many “queens” in my life-meaning, Mrs. Nebraska, or about 8 Nebraska Czech queens, or another queen of European descent. I am telling you, I couldn’t even remember them all. Oh, and there was the Angus Queen. Jode pointed out that Angus sounded better than Cow Queen. Ha!

We came home after that, had dinner (including buffalo burgers, and locally made jalepeno cheddar hot dogs..), and waited for the sun to go down. We did fireworks, real live fireworks, like I have not done since we left California. William was not impressed, and spent most of his time watching from the living room window, but overall we had a great time.
