Upcoming event….
By Jenny | June 30, 2006
Well, we have been hearing some pretty strange things about our little town here, during the 4th of July. We live in The Fourth of July town, for our state. We were given a list (looonnnggg!) of what is happening on the Fourth here.
Here is an upcoming peek at the events:
- Holiday Light Display
- Town Carnival
- Parade
- Food Alley
- Pie Eating Contest
- Ted Kooser, Poet Laureate, banquet
- Civic Center Awards
- Wissman Family Sings (this family has 12 children…)
- Flag Raising
- Anvil Firing
- Antique Fair, with antique tractors and farm machinery
- Reproductions of famous US documents on display
- Quilt Show
- Pet Parade (free, b.y.o.p.)
- Free showing of the movie “RV”, twice
- Photo documentary of history of 4th of July in town
- Viewing of the county’s geneological records
- Antique Market
- Magician
- Pole Vault competition (personally, I am looking to enter this…not!)
- Walking tour of the Town Square
- Brass concert
- Aerobatic Airplane Show
- Massive, end of the day, fireworks
- Poetry reading
- Tae Kwon Do demonstration (guess whose kids are in that?)
- Bubblegum blowing contest
- Antique Auto Show
That is only about 35% of what goes on that day; I have had exactly half of the townspeople (those I have asked, I mean) tell me that it is a great, fun day. The other half has said, “Are you nuts? We leave town…”
Well, we will see….
