Ha Ha Ha - You wanted dirt?
By Jode | May 12, 2006
Do you ever feel like the whole world is laughing at you? You look into the eyes of the people around the room and they all seem to be saying “Are you really THAT stupid?”
This is our first such Nebraska experience. We bought “topsoil” for the backyard. I’m sure you’re familiar with it. Topsoil is that stuff you seed to grow a lawn or plant a garden. Normally it is soft and has lots of organic material. Topsoil says to you “Whatever you give to me I will cause it to flourish and grow”.
You were wrong.
Topsoil is hard - mostly clay - and dry and couldn’t support a cactus. In the Great Prairie topsoil is nothing more than natural asphalt that allows prairie grass to grow in the cracks. We plan on making a whole backyard out of this stuff but first we have to pulverize it with an ice chipper. See us idiot North Easterners making fools of ourselves.
Lucky for us Ben was there to shoot the dirt and make it behave.

Here is Cori, fixing our family breakfast, in this bright, bright kitchen we now have! I love the windows, and the sunrise coming in the windows. [...]
