Sears home update
By Jode | May 10, 2006
Nathan and I dropped by an antique dealer in Lincoln last week to get some help on restoring the house to period architecture and interior. Conners Architectural Antiques were awesome. I did not know we had so many choices… This guy had 3 warehouses of stuff to choose from.
They go into houses and buildings before they are demolished and pull out all of the doors, windows, woodwork, door handles, heating vents, etc… Being the old house nerd that I am I was ‘excited’. I spoke with Sid the owner for about 45 minutes while he “told me everything about my house” (John 4:29). He is one of the few characters you meet that KNOW what they are talking about in detail. They had done a demo job around the corner from my house the day before so he knows where I live.
According to Sid we do not have a Sears home. If you look at the interior and exterior ’settling’ fisures and fractures on a Sears home you will see signs of vertical cracks in the walls. When you are looking at a “ballon” construction home the cracks are spider-web like. In the interior there are a few spider-web cracks in the plaster - hence ‘ballon’ constrcution and not tilt-up Sears style.
